WEBINAR 1

Mycotoxin production in the field and in silages

Date: 7 May 2024  - you will receive a link to watch the recording of the webinar.
Time: 1:00 PM-2:00 PM CEST
Presenters:
Dr. Brad Flett, Senior Plant Pathologist, Grain Crops Institute, South Africa
Prof. Dr. Antonio Gallo, Department of Animal Science, Food and Nutrition, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Piacenza, Italy

Program:
Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by a wide range of fungi species. These toxins may be responsible for toxic syndromes and production losses in livestock. In this first webinar, the authors will describe how mycotoxins are formed in the field and in silages. This course is the basis for understanding the following webinars that are part of the Masterclass in Mycotoxins.

WEBINAR 2

Mycotoxins in insects

Date: 18 June 2024
Time: 01:00 PM - 01:45 PM CEST
Presenter: Prof. Miklós Mézes, Department of Feed Safety, Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Science, Gödöllő, Hungary

Program:
Insects and insect larvae are alternative protein sources for animals and humans, but they contain some potential risks, for instance, mycotoxin contamination, even when reared in a controlled environment and substrate. The purpose of this webinar is to summarise the effect of some mycotoxins with high occurrence in plant-origin substrates on edible insect species.

WEBINAR 3

SFR guidelines for mycotoxins in the diets of poultry, swine, and cattle

Date: 2 July 2024
Time: 01:00 PM - 02:00 PM CEST
Presenter: Dr. Regiane R Santos, SFR, Lelystad, The Netherlands

Program:
The detrimental impact of mycotoxin exposure will vary depending on the duration of the animal's exposure to the contaminated diet, the animal's species, age, sex, health status, and the type of mycotoxins present in the diet. The webinar will provide an overview of the maximum levels of mycotoxins recommended by SFR, considering their impact on animal performance and disease

WEBINAR 4

Effects of mycotoxins on fish

Date: 1 October 2024
Time: 01:00 PM – 01:45 PM CEST
Presenter: Dr. Constanze Pietsch, Senior Scienctist, Bern University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland

Program:
Aquaculture is increasing continuously and more dry feeds are needed every year while at the same time fishmeal and fish oil are increasingly limited resources for feed production. Consequently, more plant-based ingredients are used for feed production which increases the probability of mycotoxin transfer into the farmed fish. But also non-plant-based ingredients, such as insect larvae meals, have been proposed as promising alternatives for fishmeal. In the present webinar, the effects of mycotoxins on fish health and production will be discussed.

WEBINAR 5

Analysis of mycotoxins in biological samples

Date: 22 October 2024
Time: 01:00 PM – 01:45 PM CEST
Presenter: Dr. Giuseppe Meca, Department of Food Science and Toxicology, University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain

Program:
Identifying and quantifying mycotoxins in feed is essential for detoxifying or rejecting contaminated products. However, in addition to their notorious toxicity, some mycotoxins have shown various levels of bioaccumulation in organs and tissues of animals, and sometimes when symptoms or suspicion of mycotoxicosis occurs, there is the risk that the complete contaminated diets were already consumed, and routine storage of dietary samples in the farm not applicable. In the present webinar, the analysis of mycotoxins in biological fluids such as blood, milk, urine, and feces, will be discussed.

WEBINAR 6

Mycotoxins interactions

Date: 12 November 2024
Time: 01:00 PM – 01:45 PM CEST
Presenter: Dr. Imourana Alassane-Kpembi, Department of Veterinary Biomedicine, University of Montreal, Canada

Program:
Co-contamination of feedstuffs, feed and food by various different mycotoxins is the rule, not the exception. Hence, humans and animals are exposed to cocktails of mycotoxins through their diet. Therefore, the way in which mycotoxins interact with their congeners or with other components in the exposome to jointly modify the overall risk of disease needs to be characterised. This webinar will focus on the current knowledge of the toxicodynamic and pharmacokinetic interactions in which mycotoxins may be involved with other xenobiotics, because of their simultaneous effects on animal organisms
